Matara · Sri Lanka · 5°56′ N
A luxury villa on Sri Lanka's south coast,
a minute's walk from the waves.
01 · The house
Built around a garden,
run like a home.
Villa Verner sits just off Beach Road in Matara, on Sri Lanka's southern coast: nine rooms around a garden of coconut palms, a pool, a padel court and a restaurant that fills the whole third floor. The days here are unhurried — swim, surf, read, eat well — while the staff quietly take care of everything else.
The restaurant fills the villa's entire third floor. Our chef shops the Matara morning market and cooks Sri Lankan food up there daily — rice and curry, grilled fish straight off the boats, fruit from the garden — and breakfast and dinner are included for every guest.
The same few people look after the house year round. Ask for a surf tip, a driver to Galle, or a game of table tennis on the restaurant floor — it is usually arranged before you finish your coffee.

02 · The rooms
Nine rooms, no two alike.
The rooms are simply numbered — six in the main villa and three in the new villa beside it — and no two are furnished alike: carved timber, cotton, warm lamplight. Every stay includes breakfast and dinner for all guests.

03 · The coast
The beach at the end of the road
Matara's shoreline starts fifty metres from the gate: swim before the heat, walk the reef at low tide, do nothing at all. Surf lessons at Weligama Bay are twenty-five minutes away, the whale boats leave Mirissa half an hour west, and Galle Fort makes an easy afternoon.
Coconut palms on the red-earth point west of Matara beach, a short walk from the villa.
